Topic Three

Why is the moment when the 'vampire hunters' make a pact to work together so importnat, in terms of both plot and theme?

  1. The moment when the 'vampire hunters' made the pact to kill Dracula is esential to both the plot and the theme because the book wouldn't be the same if the Count continued to turn people into vampires. It would have become boring and repetitive. In my opinon the theme of Dracula is "Love conquers all", and if the 'vampire hunters' did not decide to kill the Count then both Lucy and Mina would be doomed for eternity as the 'undead'. Their love for both women gave them the courage to hunt Dracula down and prevent him from ever turning another innocent human into a monster. Without Dracula's death this powerful vampire would have just continued on turning people into creatures of the night and recking havoc over unknowing cities. The theme and plot would have been dull if not for the pact the 'vampire hunters' made because that is what made the story.

  3. I believe that this moment is very essential because it is the turning point of the entire book. In that moment you begin to see the determiniation and hope of the men to finally put an end to the infamous Count Dracula. It really works for the plot and theme because it still has the element of suspense and danger. The reader can not stop, (or at least I couldn't), until Dracula is finally and truly dead. The 'vampire hunters' are faced with the danger of facing the Count and possibly becoming part of the dark vampire world which also helps make the plot and theme very interesting. Also, the book just would not have been the same of the men just let Dracula go. It would have created more havoc because Madam Mina would have become a vampire and in turn created more. The book would have become a never ending series and readers would have lost interest. That in my opinion is why this point in the story is so crucial.

  4. The joining of the pact is a very important detail in the book. If there were no pact, then Dracula would be free to feast on any poor unsuspecting soul at whatever time he pleased. Then his victims would procure their own, and so on... This would not make for a very appealing novel. So the forming of the "vampire-hunters" was a way to keep the reader's attention on alert. It was meant to help build suspense, thrill, worry, and awe. The men in said pact risked their lives for a woman they all came to love. They faught despite the possibilities of being either simply killed or being forced into Dracula's ferocious legue. And if the later happened, they would be forced to fight against friends and the cause they so believed in. Without the frights and suspicion of the reader, I don't think Stoker's Dracula would have been such a monumental stepping-stone in the literary world. This was the cause for the "vampire-hunters".

  5. The moment is so essential because that is the point where everything changed. The villian was going to be demolished and everything would change. We know that Dracula can make other humans vampires, so we were waiting for a change, for everything to get interesting again. The 'vampire hunter' pact would prove that love conquers all. The love all the members of the pact had for eachother and for their kind grew and overcame the biggest power of evil. The plot changed and made you grow interest in the story. You have been waiting the whole book for Dracula to be beat, and the climax that it was actually happening was so great. In terms of theme, hope grew inside. With the hope to save Mina and Lucy, and to finally have a sense normal in Transylvania. Dracula doesn't know what true love is, not even for a someone attractively, but pure love more for yourself and others. The pact was larger then Dracula because they had something he could never have, they had love.

  6. Do you think their plot to hunt Dracula was fair? All those people essentially against one lowly vampire. Is their pact/plan lawful?

  7. I believe if they did not make that pact then there would be no chance to defeat Dracula. I think it was fair to make the pact because Dracula was so very powerful because of his wisdom and childlike brain that he has been working on for centuries. Without the pact the theme would be less powerful and have less love and devotion to the people they love.

  8. The time when the humans came together was a pivotal moment. Without the alliance formed between the men and Mina, Dracula would have continued destroying lives. And the bond that grew between them was amazing to me. They all had a love for eachother so much so that they were willing to place there lives in danger. Stoker put together a team of smart and brave people. They each had something important to contribute to their plot against Dracula. We can see how this was needed for the author's plot. A theme that grew from this was that when more people believe in the same thing and work together the chances of success are greater.

  9. When the vampire hunters decided to stop Dracula, it was an extremely important part of the plot. If they hadn't intervened, Dracula would've continued to turn people into vampires, and eventually their loved ones would've fallen victim just like what happened to Lucy. And I think that their plan was fair. Even though Dracula was one "lowly" vampire, he was too powerful for one person alone to handle. So, it took a whole team of unique and important characters to bring down an evil that's been terrorizing Europe for years.

  10. The alliance of the characters to stop Dracula was a very important part. The novel would have been drastically changed if this hadn't happened.Dracula would have continued harming innocent humans, and turning them into vampires. We also would have never gotten to see the unique skills of each of the characters. I feel this plan was lawful because even though Dracula was only one person he had the power of more. So, the combined team was vital to the defeat of Dracula.

  11. I feel that this was the turning point in the book. The characters united as a team to take down Dracula. Dracula would have continued destroying lives if it wasn't for the team being formed. Dracula had the power to change people into vampires, so if the team hadn't taken him down he would have kept on sucking the life out of more and more innocent people until it was nearly impossible to take him down. There was a strong love between the people on the team. They were all strong and brave and they also believed in each other, which helped them take down the evil called Dracula.

  12. When the pact was made between the 'vampire hunters' it creates the pivotal moment in the book as the characters vow that none should, or will become the monstrosity that Lucy had become. It creates the assembly that they needed to destroy Dracula, as they couldn't separately in the case of Lucy. It combines their love to make the necessary unity that could finally be the stopping power that could end the Count, and turn the tables against him as they, together, determined to stamp out this evil from the world for good.

  13. The pact made by the 'vampire hunters' is so important in the book. If they had not formed this pact, then Dracula would have kept turning people into vampires. Each person in the pact had importance because they either had incidents with Dracula or have seen what he has been doing. Alone, none of them could befeat Dracula, therefore each part of their information was used in the plot against Dracula to stop him, and save their own lives and the lives of the innocent people being harmed by him.
